How We Help

Forj supports teens in foster care by pairing them with a robust community of compassionate, dedicated individuals.

We connect teens with mentors who provide guidance, encouragement, and practical support while cheering and standing by them and others in their circle when it matters most. Through these relationships, teens gain a community of support to help them develop the confidence and skills needed to navigate life’s challenges and build a positive future.

What does "aging out" mean?

+

Aging out of foster care happens when a young person in the foster system reaches the age limit for foster care, typically 18 or 21, depending on state regulations, and is no longer eligible for the state’s care or support. When foster youth age out, they often lose access to many resources and services provided by the foster system, like housing assistance, healthcare, and financial support. Without a permanent family or a strong support network, many face significant challenges as they transition to adulthood, including finding stable housing, employment, and education opportunities. Programs like Forj are designed to help bridge this gap by providing mentorship, resources, and a supportive community that empowers these young people to build independent, fulfilling lives.

Is Forj only active in Virginia?

+

Forj is currently based in Virginia, but we hope to expand our programs to other regions in the future. We believe that foster teens across the country can benefit from the type of support we offer, and we're excited to grow our reach as our resources allow.
